Sebastien Buemi led Formula One testing for the third straight day yesterday as he bids to become a driver for Toro Rosso.

Sebastien Buemi has further enhanced his chances of securing a drive with Toro Rosso next season after setting the fastest time during day one of Formula One’s last group test of 2008 at Jerez in Spain.

New Zealander Brendon Hartley will test for the Red Bull Formula One team next month after regular Australian driver Mark Webber was ruled out with a broken leg.

Scuderia Toro Rosso have confirmed they will run three of the main contenders for their two available 2009 race seats in next week’s Barcelona test.

The Formula One bandwagon has already rolled on to Monza for testing ahead of the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks time. It was the Williams of Nico Rosberg which set the pace on the opening day of the three-day test. His closest rival was Heikki Kovalainen in the McLaren, followed by Felipe Massa’s Ferrari.

Felipe Massa (Ferrari): “It’s great to be on pole position, especially after the great disappointment of Budapest, but I’m well aware the race is tomorrow and so there is still a long way to go.”
