Rubens Barrichello has admitted he would be keen to drive for Toro Rosso in 2009 if Honda opt not to retain his services.
The 36-year-old Brazilian is out of contract with the Brackley-based team, his most recent deal having expired at the end of the 2008 season.
Honda have yet to announce their 2009 driver line-up, although Jenson Button is expected to be retained.
Barrichello did not test for Honda in Barcelona last week, the team opting instead to run both Bruno Senna and Lucas di Grassi alongside Button and test driver Alex Wurz.
While expressing his interest in Toro Rosso, the most experienced driver in F1 history also said he still has the “energy” to race.
“I am very proud of everything I have accomplished,” Barrichello wrote on his personal website.
“I am saying this because it seems like I still want to race because I have to prove myself, but this is not why I want to stay in F1.
“I want to keep going simply because I love it and I still have a lot of energy.
“I have a chance of going to two very competitive teams: Honda or Toro Rosso.
“This is what motivates me right now.”
