In case the satire of that headline didn’t translate… you’re warned, it was completely and utterly satirical in nature.

Fernando Alonso is set to drive for Honda in 2009 as a stop-gap measure prior to a move to Ferrari a year later.

The former world champion is currently with Renault but The Guardian reports that the Spaniard is not only due to sign a $15m deal to drive alongside Jenson Button next year, but has already shaken hands on a deal to join Ferrari some time in the future.

The apparent key to Alonso’s switch to Honda is the appointment of former Ferrari team boss Ross Brawn, who has stated his high opinion of the former McLaren driver in the past.

Honda believe Alonso could be worth 0.6secs a lap and his test and development skills are just what the team requires with a raft of new aerodynamic rules, slick tyres and KERS energy regeneration systems being introduced in 2009.

Ah-huh… as you can tell my needle is pegged. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Actually, considering the lad has realised his top dollar value, there is no Alonso “to team X” story I consider too far fetched.

No Honda wont sign him for a year, but I would not put it past the guy to start playing one team off another.I’m convinced that, post Hamilton/McLaren, he will not go to Ferrari as long as the Kimster is there.

If he leaves Renault (& clearly a team performance clause is in his 08 contract) my tips are, Honda or Toyota. Something tells me the boys from BMW, having seen the Mercedes meltdown, do not want a bar of him.

My feeling is this is a smokescreen to screw even more cash out of Renault. Were he to leave, where would this put the team? Up shit creek………….with Piquet jr for a paddle. No thanks!

Poor Flav, imagine having to go to the board of Renault to ask for big bucks for a driver who you manage personally.

If I laugh at this I apologize. This guy’s a winner (at least in his mind anyway) and that’s all he wants to do. Ross Brawn can’t turn Honda around in one year. It is a one year deal the rumors say right?

Sorry about the sarcasm, but a one year deal to Honda doesn’t make sense and what is .6 seconds a lap to Alonso. It won’t win races and it certainly won’t win the title and that’s the only thing Alonso wants.

I say he stays at Renault for one more year.

BMW's Robert Kubica says Lewis Hamilton's driving style is regarded as dangerous by his rivals, bringing the expected blowback from McLaren. Kubica ignited a paddock argument when he told a newspaper that the championship leader had drawn the ire of other drivers for his forceful overtaking maneuvers. Exhibit A in the Pole's argument was Hamilton's drive in the Italian Grand Prix when ...
