According to Autosport Williams are going to pull some resources working on their 2009 program back on to developing the team’s current FW30 in a bid to lift their performance in the second half of the year.

Which raises the question, why bother?

With 8 events left they sit in 6th place 8 points behind Red Bull and a single point ahead of Renault. What’s the significance of gaining a place or two assuming it’s possible?

Presumably Sir Frank thinks it’s worth the effort.

Not if it were my money, with all the new rules for 2009 the emphasis should be on improving and testing for 2009.

To hell with a place or two this year. 2009 starts now.

Yeah that does sound strange, although you could argue that the prize money for points is a motivation.

It will never happen, but imagine the result of Toyota & Williams merging.Toyota do the engine (which is frozen anyway) & Williams build the car with a fist full of Toyota dollars. It would actually work out to be cheaper than Toyota’s current spend.Man, sometimes I’m just too sensible.

For what it’s worth, Honda have said that they have chucked in the development towel for 08 & are concentrating on 09.

A Brawn led turn around for 09?

Frank is a proud mad and maybe for him to see his team diving toward the bottom of the grid is a little too hard for him to take.

Just a thought, but 2009 may be reality.

Mario Theissen has decided to put more effort back into the F1.08 but that’s because things are going well.

TV money. Pure and simple. If the cost to develop the ‘08 is less than the return, it makes some sense.

I think the possibility exists Toyota want to get out of that horrible Germany headquarters situation. Closing up shop and doing a deal with Williams makes a lot of sense, as well.
