The British Grand Prix is set to smash its attendance records after it has been revealed the event is a guaranteed sell-out over all three days.

/

For the first time in Silverstone’s history, the circuit will be full to capacity for Friday practice, Saturday qualifying and on Sunday for the race.

After recently confirming a 90,000 sell-out for the grand prix on July 6, organisers have now sold all 65,000 tickets for Friday and 85,000 for Saturday.

Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Ltd, said: “The demand for tickets has been incredible.

“Only three weeks ago we announced that race day had sold out, now practice and qualifying have sold out too.

“We will be at full capacity over all three days with a record combined crowd figure of 240,000. The atmosphere is going to be amazing.

“I have said it before, but we really do have the best fans in the world.

“They are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the sport, and will get right behind the three British drivers - Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and David Coulthard.

“It’s going to be a fantastic event.”

Organizers are already planning for next season’s event, and aim to put tickets on sale the day after this year’s race.

I’m surprised this is the first total sell out, because I assumed that in 92 Mansell mania had produced a similar interest.

I kind of feel sorry for Lewis, the support of the Brit public is a double edged sword. One day they love you, the next day (for the slightest error) they call for your head. The Brit press can be impossible to live with.

I view this as a slap at Bernie and his idiocy at attempting to pry more cash away with a threat to move the BGP to Donnington.

From everything I’ve read Donnington has the same problems as Magny Cours, out in the boonies, a single access road leading to it and near zero infrastructure to support that many fans.
